In CNC machining, cutting tools are the precision "scalpels." Correct selection determines machining quality and efficiency, requiring balance between three key elements: rigidity, material, and geometry.
Understanding Tool Parameters

Square End vs Ball Nose Mills
These are two of the most fundamental tool types, with distinctly different purposes. Choosing wrong leads directly to failure.
1. Square End Mill: The Sculptor of Right Angles and Planes
Technical Characteristic: Features a flat end, perpendicular to the axis, capable of producing clean 90-degree side walls.

Shoulder Milling: Creating vertical steps in a single pass.
Face Milling: Generating large, flat surfaces.

Technical Insight: During side milling, the radial depth of cut should not be excessive, otherwise the tool's corner (where stress is most concentrated) is prone to rapid wear or even chipping.

Technical Insight: The effective cutting speed of a ball nose mill is zero at the very center of the ball. Therefore, programming must use a tighter stepover and strategies like "constant scallop height" to ensure surface finish and avoid obvious "stair-step" tool marks.
